Bangladesh secured a historic series victory against Pakistan in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, a win that marks their first-ever Test series triumph over Pakistan by 2-0.
Chasing a target of 185, Bangladesh cruised to a six-wicket win, highlighting their growing confidence and skill in the longer format.
This victory also ends a drought of away Test series wins for the Bangladesh national team, their last being against Zimbabwe in 2021.
Meanwhile, in England, the hosts wrapped up a four-day Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s, claiming a commanding 190-run victory. Gus Atkinson’s century from No. 8 propelled England to a solid first-innings total of 427.
The English bowlers then dismantled Sri Lanka’s batting lineup, bowling them out for 196 and securing a 231-run lead.
Sri Lanka set an imposing target of 482, but could not mount a serious challenge, handing England a 2-0 series lead with one match left to play at The Oval.
These results have reshuffled the standings in the World Test Championship. Bangladesh’s win catapulted them to fourth place, overtaking England with a PCT (percentage of points won per contested match) of 45.83%.
England, despite their victory, slipped to fifth, their PCT now at 45%. Pakistan, on the other hand, remains in eighth position with a PCT of 19.05%, reflecting their ongoing struggles in the tournament.
