Android Phones Are Getting These 4 New Features

Google is expanding its suite of Android features and this time, the benefits extend beyond its Pixel devices. Four new enhancements are rolling out to Android users, with a bonus feature for Wear OS.

One notable addition is the integration of Gemini models into TalkBack, Android’s screen reader. This enhancement, available on compatible devices, will provide users with detailed audio descriptions of images, regardless of their source. Whether browsing their camera roll, scrolling through text messages, or navigating social media, users can now get a verbal explanation of what they’re looking at.

Additionally, Google has officially launched its “Circle to Search” feature that allows users to quickly identify songs playing in their vicinity or on their devices, but we’ve already talked about this multiple times before.

Google announces four new Android features that aren't limited to Pixels

Among the highlights is a new functionality within the Chrome browser that allows users to listen to any webpage, regardless of its content. This feature offers customizable listening speeds, voice options, and language support, similar to popular podcast platforms.

Google is also expanding its Android Earthquake Alerts System. Leveraging crowd-sourced earthquake detection technology, the system can provide users with potentially life-saving warnings seconds before tremors are felt.

Following an earthquake, the system offers helpful tips and guidance on navigating the aftermath. This expansion will bring the Android Earthquake Alerts System to all 50 US states and six territories.

Google is bringing the convenience of offline maps to Wear OS users, a feature that was previously rumored and is now becoming a reality. With this update, Wear OS smartwatches can seamlessly access maps downloaded to the user’s paired smartphone.

In addition to offline map access, Google has introduced two new shortcuts for Wear OS. Users can initiate voice searches for destinations once they are back online, streamlining the navigation process. Furthermore, a simple tap on the watch face will display the user’s current location on the map.
