Indian cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle has voiced his disappointment following Pakistan’s shocking 2-0 series loss to Bangladesh at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
The defeat marks Pakistan’s first-ever Test series loss to the Bangladeshi side, raising significant concerns about their performance in the longer format of the game.
Bhogle, who has long regarded Pakistan as a formidable force in shorter formats, had previously highlighted their vulnerability in Test matches.
“I remember saying that the shorter the game, the more dangerous Pakistan would be and that in the longer format, they would be vulnerable,” Bhogle remarked on Twitter.
However, he admitted that he did not anticipate such a drastic decline. He termed Pakistan’s loss as ’embarrassing’ and pointed out that serious work needs to be done at the grassroots level.
Bangladesh’s triumph was spearheaded by veterans Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan, who guided their team to chase down a 185-run target on the final day.
Zakir Hasan’s aggressive 40 off 39 balls set the tone for the chase, while Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque built on the strong start with crucial contributions.
The experienced duo of Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan ensured Bangladesh’s historic win and a series whitewash against Pakistan.
Pakistan’s woes continue as they have now lost five consecutive Test matches, three to Australia and two to Bangladesh, placing them eighth in the World Test Championship standings.
