The Sindh High Court (SHC) has temporarily suspended a government notification authorizing the purchase of 138 double-cabin vehicles for Assistant Commissioners across the province.
This suspension will remain in effect until the next hearing. The case was brought forward by Jamaat-e-Islami’s Sindh Assembly member, Muhammad Farooq, represented by his lawyer, Usman Farooq.
In his petition, Farooq questioned the decision to allocate substantial public funds for the purchase of these vehicles, citing concerns over the necessity and timing of the expenditure.
The letter at the center of the dispute was issued by the Sindh Government’s Services, General Administration & Coordination Department (SGA&CD), which had requested the release of funds for the procurement of the vehicles.
The petitioner argued that using public money for such a purpose was unjustified and required greater scrutiny. The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the relevant government departments to submit their responses within four weeks.
The suspension of the notification will remain in place until the SHC reviews all the facts and arguments presented in the case.
This legal development highlights ongoing concerns over the responsible use of government funds and the importance of ensuring that public resources are allocated transparently.
