Sindh Govt Approves Billions for Assistant Commissioners’ Vehicles

Despite ongoing talks of reducing government spending, the Sindh government has approved the purchase of 138 luxury double-cabin vehicles for assistant commissioners across the province.

The Services, General Administration, and Coordination Department has written to the Finance Department, requesting the release of nearly Rs. 2 billion for the purchase.

Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah gave the green light for the vehicles before departing for a week-long visit to the United States, according to official sources.

Rasheed Channa, spokesperson for the Chief Minister’s House, confirmed that the funds for these vehicles were part of the approved provincial budget. He explained that the assistant commissioners, who also serve as revenue officers, had not received new vehicles since 2012, making the purchase necessary, especially for work in rural areas.

Furthermore, sources revealed that even more expensive vehicles would be purchased for the deputy commissioners in the province.

The approval for the large sum to purchase vehicles was made despite the provincial government’s decision not to initiate any new development projects under the Annual Development Programme for the 2024-25 fiscal year due to financial limitations.

  • Part of Provincial Budget? How dare you play games with the public money? ACs have become luxury and lavish positions in Pakistan – not in other countries – India keep in view the budgets and always give reasonable Indian vehicle – either Ambassador or other low cost vehicles to its Civil Service officer, they know how to utilize the money recovered from people’s taxes, but here the governments have become deaf, dumb and blind. Now the only solution is the Nature’s revenue that we all are waiting…..
