Affan Salman, a 16-year-old from Pakistan, has won the World Youth Scrabble Championship in Sri Lanka, marking a historic achievement for his country. This victory represents Pakistan’s fifth title in the prestigious event, making it the first nation to accomplish such a feat.
Salman excelled by winning 19 out of 23 games, showcasing his strategic prowess and skill. The competition drew 138 players from around the world. According to the World English-Language Scrabble Players Association (WESPA), Salman concluded the tournament with an impressive 20-4 record and a spread of +1793.
His performance underscores the growing dominance of Pakistani players in international Scrabble. Pakistani competitors performed exceptionally well across the board. Bilal Ashar secured 6th place, and Ibrahim Mansoor achieved 8th, with 16-8 records.
Aehzam Ahmed also earned a spot in the top 10. The second-place title went to Suyash Manchali from India, who finished with a 17-7 record and a spread of +2364.
Affan Salman’s brother, Ali Salman, won the World Youth Scrabble Championship in 2022, making them the only siblings to hold this title. Pakistan also won the team trophy, with four players finishing in the top ten.
Bilal Ashar clinched the Under-14 title, while Zayan Zaman earned recognition for the highest single-move score. Additionally, Waseem Khatri from Pakistan won the adult-side tournament.
