IT Ministry Clarifies PTA’s Role in Firewall Project

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has clarified that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is not involved in funding, procurement, appointment, or operations of any firewall project at the national level.

This response came in a written reply to questions raised in the Senate.

The Ministry of IT also addressed the issue of slow speeds on WhatsApp in August, taking up the matter with operators. By the first week of September, operators had resolved the issues related to WhatsApp.

Moreover, it was also informed that the post of Managing Director of the Pakistan Software Export Board remains vacant, despite Ali Raza being appointed to the position in April 2023. However, due to a lack of security clearance, Ali Raza was removed from the position.

The ministry said it is working on appointments to the Pakistan Software Export Board.
