Pakistan Rises 14 Spots in UN E-Govt Index 2024, Achieves High EGDI Status

Pakistan has achieved a significant milestone in the United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI) 2024, jumping 14 positions to rank 136th, up from 150th in the 2022 survey.

This remarkable progress marks Pakistan’s transition from the “Middle EGDI category” to the “High EGDI category” for the first time, demonstrating substantial advancements in digital government capabilities.

The country’s E-Government Development Index value has increased to 0.5095, up from 0.42380 in 2022. While Pakistan still trails behind global leaders like Denmark (0.9847) and regional leaders like Singapore (0.969) and the Maldives (0.6745), this improvement is a notable achievement.

In terms of E-Participation, Pakistan ranks 88th with a value of 0.49 percent, significantly improving from 106th position and 0.36 value in 2022. Neighboring India ranks 97th with an E-Government Development Index value of 0.66 and an E-Participation Index value of 0.65750.

Minister of State for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for his unwavering support in promoting eGov initiatives over the past two years. She also acknowledged the contributions of the National Information Technology Board (NITB) and the Ministry of IT and Telecom (MoITT) in driving E-Governance within the Government of Pakistan.
