Punjab Approves Major Development and Welfare Projects

A provincial cabinet meeting, chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has approved several key initiatives to promote the province’s development and welfare.

Held in Lahore, the meeting endorsed three major projects: the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar housing scheme, the Chief Minister Green Tractor Program, and the Children’s Heart Surgery Program.

The cabinet also took steps to improve public safety and healthcare by increasing penalties for illegal weapons and kite flying, approving new policies for medical and dental college admissions, and establishing Punjab’s first life insurance company.

Under the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar scheme, loans of Rs1.5 million will be provided with monthly instalments of Rs14,000 over nine years. The Green Tractor Program aims to distribute 30,000 tractors to farmers, with 9,500 to be allocated immediately, and a Rs1 million subsidy per tractor was approved.

In healthcare, the Children’s Heart Surgery Program will expedite 12,000 pending surgeries for children.

To enhance public safety, the cabinet increased sentences for illegal kite-flying, with prison terms of 2 to 5 years and fines ranging from Rs2 million to Rs5 million.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also directed the conversion of the housing loan scheme into a revolving fund with no charges and simplified the application process. All provincial ministers were asked to contribute to the loan scheme’s first instalment.

These measures demonstrate the provincial government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, supporting farmers, advancing healthcare, and ensuring public safety across Punjab.
