Transport fares across Punjab have been lowered by Rs. 30 to Rs. 70 following a decrease in petroleum prices. Provincial Minister for Information, Uzma Bukhari, announced the decision, crediting Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and her team for ensuring the reduction.
Bukhari highlighted that Punjab is the only province where transport fares are adjusted when fuel prices fall. She stated that excess charges are refunded to passengers, a policy not followed by any other province.
Following Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s directives, the fare cuts have been applied across the province. District administration teams are inspecting bus terminals to ensure compliance. Bukhari warned that transporters who do not reduce fares will face strict action.
“We must ensure that passengers benefit from lower fuel costs,” Bukhari said, urging transporters to cooperate with the government. She added that Maryam Nawaz is overseeing the implementation of these changes.
It is pertinent to mention that the federal government reduced petrol prices by Rs. 10 per liter and high-speed diesel by Rs. 13.06 per liter.
