Pakistani-Norwegian Footballer Turns Down Huge Offer from Israeli Club

Pakistani-Norwegian footballer Ole Sæter has rejected a substantial offer from Israeli club Maccabi Haifa, reportedly worth €850,000.

The 28-year-old striker, who is also eligible to play for Pakistan due to his maternal heritage, emphasized his commitment to personal values over financial gain.

In an interview with a Norwegian newspaper, Sæter expressed his unwavering stance, stating, “Even if I were offered 500 million dollars, I would not join an Israeli club.”

For me, it’s not about the money; my values matter more.” Sæter’s decision is rooted in his moral beliefs, as he voiced concerns about representing a country he associates with ongoing conflict and insecurity.

“I don’t want any money that comes from the suffering of others,” he explained. “People in that region are living in fear in their own homes, and I cannot in good conscience accept such blood money, no matter how large the sum.”

The footballer has previously shown his connection to Pakistan, sharing images on social media wearing the national football jersey, a nod to his grandfather’s Pakistani citizenship.

This connection makes him eligible to represent Pakistan internationally, a prospect he seems to embrace with pride. Sæter’s firm stance highlights his dedication to his principles, as he concluded, “I am confident in where my values take me, and I stand by what I believe is right.”

“No amount of money can buy my conscience.” His decision has sparked discussions on the values of sports, politics, and personal ethics.
