The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) inspected food establishments along the Lahore-Faisalabad Motorway to ensure commuters receive healthy, high-quality food.
Under the directives of PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid, food safety teams, led by PFA Additional Director General (Operations) Sardar Asif Dogar, inspected 81 establishments, including restaurants, tuck shops, and cafes.
As a result, 10 prominent food outlets were shut down, 63 were fined a total of Rs1.8 million, and 25 were issued warning notices for necessary improvements. Additionally, the enforcement teams seized 205 kg of unhygienic meat and 49 kg of expired food items.
PFA DG Asim Javaid stated that the authority took action against food points that failed to maintain hygienic conditions, stored expired products, and improperly stored dairy and meat together. He added that food business operators (FBOs) in service areas are only permitted to sell imported and local products with prior approval from the relevant authority.
The DG further warned food outlets along Motorways M1, M2, and M3 to maintain high food quality standards or face strict penalties. He also advised commuters to check food quality before purchasing and to report any concerns through the PFA helpline at 1223.
