BYD just launched its new compact SUV, the BYD Sealion 05 DM-i. The car comes equipped with a 5th-generation DM plug-in hybrid system. Pricing starts from 112,800 to 142,800 yuan (15,980 to 20,230 USD/ PKR 4.4 million to 5.5 million) and the car has 4 different variants. It will be sold under the same BYD’s Ocean Network as its sibling model the BYD Song Pro DM-i.
It comes with two options of lithium iron phosphate batteries: 12.9 kWh and 18.3 kWh, giving a pure range of 75 km and 115 km under the CLTC cycle. The car combines a 1.5 liter naturally aspirated engine with a max power output of 74kW (99hp) and an electric motor and an electric motor producing 120 kW (160 hp), the company calls it its 5th-gen DM hybrid engine.
The Sealion 05 DM-i features BYD’s “Ocean Aesthetics” design language with a wide front grille, integrated air intake, and striking dimensions, placing it in the mid-size SUV category. The Sealion 05 DM-i has a fully digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen, and physical buttons in the center console for controlling various functions. It also includes wireless charging, USB ports, and NFC smartphone key access.
The Sealion 05 DM-i offers impressive fuel efficiency, with a minimum consumption of 3.79 L/100 km in low battery mode (NEDC standard) and between 4.85-4.9 L/100 km in the WLTC cycle. It features an E-CVT transmission for smooth acceleration and a combined range of up to 1,400 km. Additionally, it supports a 3.3kW external power output, making it useful for powering devices during outdoor activities or emergencies.
The driver’s and front passenger seats come with electric adjustment, with the driver’s seat offering 8-way adjustability. The cabin is highlighted by orange and blue stitching and includes a panoramic sunroof. The cargo space provides 407 liters, after expanding boosts up to 1,430 liters when the rear seats are folded down.
BYD Sealion 05 DM-i prioritizes fuel efficiency to meet consumer demand for reduced running costs and a smaller environmental footprint within the compact SUV segment. The Sealion 05 DM-i is a practical choice in its class, combining the latest hybrid technology with modern features.
