Pakistan Boxing Federation Rejects PSB Ban

The Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) has dismissed the ban on its officials imposed by the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) over a boxer going missing abroad. The PBF has additionally termed the inquiry report set forth by a special inquiry committee of the Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) ministry as completely biased and unfair.

A meeting of the Federation General Council and Executive Committee, chaired by Pakistan Boxing Federation President Muhammad Khalid Mehmood has taken place. During the meeting, they approved constitutional amendments for the federation and the audit report for the 2023-2024 fiscal year. Additionally, Begum Ishrat Ashraf was confirmed as the elected Chairperson of the Pakistan Boxing Federation in the meeting.

The members of the meeting unanimously expressed strong concern over the actions of the Pakistan Sports Board and rejected the report regarding a boxer who traveled to Italy for the Olympic qualifiers on an official passport, allegedly to hide there. The boxer was deemed to have had the proper clearance (NOC) from his respective department.

During the meeting, the Federation President updated the members on the ongoing efforts and contributions of the Pakistan Boxing Federation in ensuring that boxing remains an Olympic sport. In addition, a cash prize was announced for Ayesha Mumtaz in recognition of her bronze medal win at the Asian Junior and School Boys and Girls Boxing Championship.
