PIA Stops Using Iranian Airspace Amid Regional Tensions

In light of the escalating situation in the region, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced that it will avoid using Iranian airspace until further notice. This decision follows missile attacks launched by Tehran against Israel, heightening fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East.

A PIA spokesman confirmed the airline’s decision on Wednesday, emphasizing that it would not operate flights over Iran until conditions stabilize. This statement came shortly after reports of Iran firing over 180 ballistic missiles at Israel, prompting Washington to declare its commitment to support Israel and ensure Iran faces significant consequences for the attack.

The United Nations Security Council is set to convene to discuss the ongoing tensions, while the European Union has called for an immediate ceasefire in the region.

PIA typically utilizes two corridors of Iranian airspace: the northern corridor for flights to Canada and Turkey, and the southern corridor for destinations such as the UAE, Bahrain, Doha, and Saudi Arabia.

The recent military actions marked Iran’s most significant offensive against Israel to date, resulting in sirens sounding across Israel and the public being urged to seek shelter.

Although no injuries were reported in Israel, authorities confirmed one fatality in the occupied West Bank. According to Iran, its strikes were defensive and targeted Israeli military facilities in response to recent escalations.
