Pakistan’s former women’s cricketer turned commentator, Urooj Mumtaz recently discussed Shan Masood’s captaincy stint of the Pakistan Cricket team.
Speaking in an interview with English analyst Nasser Hussain, she remarked that Shan Masood was someone who was trying to change things in Pakistan cricket. “He’s trying to reignite the philosophy of Pakistan cricket, which should dovetail with where the modern game is at”
She continued by stating that Shan Masood always talks about playing positively and that he tries to lead by example in that regard. Mumtaz stressed that people should not forget that Masood is still new to the massive role that is Pakistan’s captain, while also emphasizing that despite all his efforts he still had to deliver results.
Talking about the Pakistani public opinion on the matter, she said “The way the Pakistani public is, we do not give a lot of people a lot of time. They become cruel very quickly. The loss against Bangladesh did not help Shan’s (Masood) cause as well.”
Urooj Mumtaz concluded by stating that captain Shan Masood needed to lead from the front and that the series against England, which is due to start on Monday, will be a massive challenge on all fronts.
