Pakistan’s fiery Aamer Jamal took an incredible catch to dismiss England skipper Ollie Pope during the second innings of the first Test between Pakistan and England in Multan.
The visitors have not gotten off to the best of starts, with opener Ollie Pope already back in the hut for a duck. Facing only his second delivery, England’s captain tried to whack pacer Naseem Shah away for six but did not expect Aamer Jamal to take what has easily been the best display of fielding from either side so far.
Pope was promoted to the opening slot at the last moment, with regular opener Ben Duckett suffering an as-of-yet-unclear injury to the hand. The delivery by Naseem was relatively standard, a length ball easy enough for Pope to try and smash away, however, the batsman failed to get proper elevation on his shot, resulting in the traveling ball not being high enough to clear the waiting fielder.
While it was hit with a good force, Aamer Jamal flung himself to his right in a manner most football keepers would be proud of to grab on to a one-handed catch.
This has already set the tone in terms of fielding, with England shelling a few chances near the end of the first innings, including a missed stumping of Abrar Ahmed, and Pakistan, often the lesser team in terms of fielding, are in the ascendancy.
