The Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO)recently said there’s a massive cybersecurity breach in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), which has caused a tax revenue loss of Rs. 14.66 billion.
Hackers exploited vulnerabilities in FBR’s security systems and reported fake transactions amounting to Rs. 81.43 billion, which resulted in a big loss.
The FBR is already facing various problems in meeting its revenue collection targets. The tax regulator achieved only 43 percent of its monthly target during the first 18 days of September.
FBR has approached the Chief Commissioner of the Corporate Regional Tax Office and demanded more intensity in revenue collection efforts. The regulator urged for stronger measures to recover outstanding taxes, ensure timely filing of monthly sales tax returns, and enhance monitoring of withholding agents to prevent tax evasion.

The only way to address these kinds of issues is to hire competent people, and instead of treating taxpayers as enemies, the FBR should focus on bringing large tax evaders into the tax net.

Hacker’s breaching the organization by social engineering and other malicious algorithm technique to compromised the systems easily. That’s why they loss much assets.
Nonsense. They know these fake transactions, They know the systems made these transactions. They know the accounts which the transactions initiated from. They can recover it with even added penalties unless they don’t want to….. And if they really cant track back then they must throw their so-called iris and the most-promoted ePOS system…

Never mind. The FBR will make up these losses out of the pockets of common people and by keeping the refundable amounts.
Instead of demanding more intensity in revenue collection efforts. Demand or beef up your cyber security. You are already stealing people’s hard earned money. The people get nothing in return. You’ve changed the meaning of tax to home rent. FBR is just another mafia now
FBR itself is compromised . They are hiding their failures using these mis directions . Cybersecurity is a part of their internal matter which they are avoiding by putting pressure on tax payers. Now do they want tax payers to pay for their incompetentence as well?
If corruption could be eliminated from the FBR, revenue collection would increase many fold.
