The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has halted the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) from releasing the final merit list for the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) following petitions from students over alleged errors in the test.
The students claimed that 30 out of 200 questions were incorrect, which could unfairly affect their chances of gaining admission.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir issued the restraining order on Thursday, temporarily preventing the PMDC from moving forward with the merit list until the issue is resolved. The students also requested that medical colleges halt the admissions process.
The court has called for responses from all relevant parties, including the PMDC, by October 28. This comes after a similar move by the Sindh High Court, which also stopped the release of the merit list following allegations of irregularities in the MDCAT exam.
The Sindh court approved the formation of a committee, tasked with investigating the allegations within 15 days, with the authority to assess civil and criminal liabilities.
