A massive fire engulfed a large part of the Gazara forest in Murree, causing serious concern among local residents.
Residents said they had tried to bring the fire under control on their own. They blamed the frequent fire incidents on the inefficiency and negligence of the Forest Department.
According to residents, repeated fires in the area have destroyed precious trees and killed animals and birds. They said the continuous fire incidents are causing severe damage to the environment and valuable natural resources.
The residents expressed concern over the recurring forest fires and called for serious action to protect the forest, wildlife and natural resources.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over forest fires in Punjab’s hilly regions.
Earlier in June, a devastating forest fire decimated an estimated 3,037 hectares, or 7,504.7 acres, of natural forest tree cover across 25 locations in the ecologically sensitive Kotli Sattian region of Punjab, according to satellite data released by SUPARCO.
