Saim Ayub Among Top Picks in BPL Draft

Pakistani cricketers Saim Ayub, Mohammad Hasnain, Faheem Ashraf, and more were picked in player draft for the upcoming season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

The player draft for the upcoming season of the BPL took place today at a luxury hotel in Dhaka. Among the many players picked up, around 14 Pakistani players were drafted to play across six of the seven teams, with quite a few having already directly signed with some teams ahead of the draft.

Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Ali, and Jahandad Khan will represent Fortune Barishal, while Mohammad Hasnain and Mohammad Nawaz will play for Khulna Tigers. Rangpur Riders will feature Khushdil Shah, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Akif Javed. Dhaka Capitals have picked up Shahnawaz Dahani and Saim Ayub. Notably, Saim Ayub was the first pick among foreign players in the BPL draft.

Usman Khan, Haider Ali, and Mohammad Wasim Jr. will join Chittagong Kings. Saad Nasim will represent Durbar Rajshahi. Sylhet Strikers are the only team who have opted to not pick up a single player from Pakistan as of yet.

Just a few days ago there were doubts as to whether the draft would go ahead, with the newly-constituted Bangladesh Cricket Board not having announced the replacements of the BPL Governing Council Chairman and Secretary positions, previously held by Sheikh Sohel and Ismail Haider Mallick, who left the country following the recent student-led uprising.

The 11th season of the BPL will start on December 27th, running all the way till February of 2025.
