The Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has taken action against a senior official, suspending him from his post after a student accused him of harassment. This move followed a wave of protests by students on campus, who expressed their frustration with the administration’s handling of harassment complaints.
Students gathered outside the vice chancellor’s office, demanding accountability for the male staff members allegedly involved in harassing students. The protestors, carrying banners and placards, chanted slogans criticizing the university’s administration for not addressing the issue promptly.
The administration responded after receiving a formal complaint from one of the students, launching an inquiry into the matter and suspending the accused official to ensure transparency.
According to a university spokesperson, the suspension was necessary to allow for an unbiased investigation. A special committee has been formed to probe the harassment allegations and deliver a fair verdict.
Despite these actions, the protesting students are planning to continue their demonstrations. A larger protest is scheduled to take place on Tuesday. In response, the university administration has announced a local holiday, citing ongoing construction work on campus. However, many believe this move was made to manage the growing unrest among the student body.
