For the first time in Punjab’s history, implementing a program aimed at establishing micro-libraries and constructing “City Walls” to showcase the culture of small towns has commenced. This initiative was launched from Wazirabad, a city known for its literary and commercial significance in Punjab.
According to details from “Jang” regarding the Chief Minister’s “Read Punjab Programme,” micro-library book racks have been installed in public parks, as well as in waiting areas of bus and railway stations across Wazirabad. Initially, over 1,000 books were available at 15 locations for the residents of Wazirabad and visitors from other cities. Over the next two to three months, 1,000 books will be added to these racks.

The primary goal of the program is to promote healthy reading habits among people in parks and while waiting at transportation hubs. Rainproof covers have been placed over the book racks to protect the books from adverse weather conditions.
As part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision to highlight the cultural heritage of small towns, special walls have been erected in Wazirabad tehsil to depict the history and culture of the newly designated district. The “Walls of Wazirabad,” “Alipur Chatha,” and “Gakhar” serve as prominent cultural landmarks reflecting the unique identity of each city within Wazirabad tehsil.
