The CEO of England Cricket Board (ECB) CEO Richard Gould has expressed his enthusiasm for England’s upcoming return to Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
Gould’s comments suggest that logjam over the competitions eventual destination may soon be coming to an end. There is an air of uncertainty over the ICC event with India’s continual refusal to travel to Pakistan for the competition.
The Englishman is a staunch supporter of India’s participation in the next years championship dubbing them essential for commercial success of everyone involved.
“We are looking forward to coming back to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. Thank you for taking such good care of us,” Gould said during his tour of Multan alongside PCB COO Salman Naseer.
Noting that this is his second visit to Pakistan in the past two years, he emphasized how well ECB officials and the England cricket team have been treated during their stays.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will likely take place from February 19 to March 9, with a reserve day set for March 10.
Pakistan has been placed in Group A alongside arch-rivals India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand with Group B including England, South Africa, Australia, and Afghanistan.
Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi have been chosen as venues for the tournament with Lahore set to host seven matches, including the final on March 9. Karachi will host the tournament opener and one semi-final, while Rawalpindi will host five games, including the second semi-final.
Pakistan will defend its crown for the first time after winning the competition in 2017 with a memorable win over India.
