Cabinet Suddenly Takes U-Turn on Imposing New Anti-Cybercrime Rules

The federal cabinet has suddenly taken a U-turn by revoking the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) rules which would have allowed it to take action against cybercrime actors, propaganda, harassment, and individuals who spread rumors on social media.

Sources told ProPakistani that this was decided after a recommendation from the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Affairs. Sources said the Interior Ministry has formally informed the Ministry of IT about the Cabinet’s decision.

Meanwhile, the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) cybercrime wing is now once again reactivated after being abolished a day earlier.

It bears mentioning that the NCCIA was established by the caretaker government in December 2023 to coordinate with international organizations and combat cybercrime.
