Pakistan has secured the hosting rights for two prestigious Commonwealth handball tournaments, marking a significant moment for the Pakistan Handball Federation (PHF).
The Commonwealth Handball Association (CHA) has confirmed that Pakistan will get to organize both the 1st Commonwealth Men’s Senior Beach Handball Championship and the 1st Commonwealth Universities Women’s Handball Championship next year.
The Men’s Beach Handball Championship is expected to take place in Karachi, with exact dates to be announced soon. CHA has already started working on distributing the invitation forms to presidents and general secretaries of Commonwealth member federations, requesting confirmation of their teams’ participation by November 15, 2024.
Each participating team will consist of 10 players, supported by a head of delegation, coach, assistant coach, and manager or physiotherapist.
Meanwhile, the 1st Commonwealth Universities Women’s Handball Championship scheduled for April 2025, will be held in Faisalabad. According to the CHA mission statement, the event aims to promote unity, sportsmanship, and camaraderie among participating Commonwealth nations.
Eligibility requirements for the Universities Women’s Championship include team affiliation with national university sports federations, with players either currently enrolled or having graduated within the past year. Teams must provide proof of university affiliation and player eligibility.
These upcoming international handball tournaments will provide Pakistan an opportunity to showcase its sporting potential and strengthen ties within the Commonwealth sports community especially with the Glasgow Games trimming the event.
