Michael Atherton Wants English Batsmen to Play Like Saud Shakeel

In the wake of Pakistan’s series win against England on the Rawalpindi surface, former English cricketer Michael Atherton has asked the English batters, specifically Joe Root and Harry Brook to try and play more like Pakistan vice-captain Saud Shakeel.

Speaking after stumps on Day 2 of the deciding Test, Atherton noted that while England were 3 down early in their 2nd innings, they were not necessarily out of the game as of yet.

Atherton stated that with the position England were in, Joe Root and Harry Brook, who notably put on a monstrous partnership of 454 runs in the first test at Multan, should dig in at the wicket with complete focus.

The former cricketer-turned-pundit explained that the two English batters should try to see off the new ball and wait till it had turned a little softer.

He then further advised England batters Root and Brook to bat as Saud Shakeel had done in Pakistan’s 1st innings of the deciding Test in Rawalpindi.

At one point, Pakistan was 177-7 in the first innings before the Pakistan vice-captain, with some solid support from Noman Ali managed to put together a solid partnership of 88 runs to help Pakistan recover to 265-8 by the time Noman Ali was dismissed.

Saud Shakeel ultimately finished with a solid 134 off 223 balls, a monumental knock under the spinning conditions.
