Semi-retired left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir expressed great shock at the fact that Fakhar Zaman was not named in the limited overs squads for tours of Australia or Zimbabwe announced recently.
The often vocal fast bowler took to social media site X to proclaim that he was surprised that Fakhar Zaman was not in the team. Mohammad Amir further contested that Fakhar was the only impact player Pakistan had in white ball cricket.
The 34-year-old Fakhar, known to be an extremely dynamic left-handed batsman has struggled to break into the side ever since he was dropped following Pakistan’s disastrous ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign in the USA in 2024.
While a regular feature on the domestic circuit as well as an expected face in most franchise T20 leagues around the world, Fakhar has had extremely rough goings as of late.
Fakhar Zaman has also been increasingly critical of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) administration as of late. He has openly criticized the mismanagement of player NOCs, with the PCB seemingly revoking already granted NOCs at the last moments or recalling players for baffling reasons.
Most recently Zaman also went gung ho in a defense for Babar Azam, posting a viral tweet supporting the former Pakistan captain following his being dropped midway during the recently concluded series against England.
It is a mixture of all these things that are also thought to be the reason that Fakhar Zaman’s name was excluded from the recently announced central contracts list, the first time Fakhar has missed out on a central contract in eight years.
