Fakhar Zaman vs PCB: Issues Likely to be Resolved Immediately

Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman is likely to rejoin both the national white-ball team and the PCB central contracts list after his much highlighted disciplinary issue. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly opted to issue him only a warning for breaching the players’ code of conduct over a social media post related to captain Babar Azam.

Sources have said that that a committee will soon be established to review Fakhar’s response to the show-cause notice he received for his comments on social media.

Conversations between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the selectors, and new captain Mohammad Rizwan are thought to have influenced the decision to bring the left-handed opener back into the fold.

Although Fakhar Zaman was recently left out of the 2024/25 central contracts list and not selected for the squads facing Australia and Zimbabwe, he is now expected to be part of the upcoming white-ball series against South Africa in December.

The selectors have recommended that Fakhar Zaman concentrate on his recovery, especially addressing a knee injury that has bothered him in recent months. To confirm his spot on the squad, he’ll need to clear a fitness test before the South Africa tour.

With Pakistan hosting the Champions Trophy next year, the overall consensus is that Fakhar’s experience and aggressive playstyle would add something positive to the setup in the Tournament as well.
