Former Pakistani all-rounder Yasir Arafat has had a stadium named after him in the Kotli Sattian Tehsil.
Arafat, a distinguished cricketer who while did not get as much playing time for Pakistan as he would have liked over the course of his playing days, was a regular bright spot in teams the world over.
He is the only player from his region to have played for Pakistan, and due to that factor as well as his regular upright performances around the world, it was only natural that an honor of this level be bestowed upon him.
The issue was raised by MPA Mr Muhammad Bilal Yamin in a session of the Punjab assembly, where he stated that funds for a cricket ground had been approved for the financial year of 2024/25.
The MPA suggested an official motion for the ground in question to be named the Yasir Arafat Sports Ground in honor of the cricketer who had represented the region. Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan asked for a vote on the matter and the motion was passed unanimously.
While his chances in the Pakistan team were limited due to the presence of Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi, and Shoaib Malik, Arafat proceeded to ensure to put out his very best performances the world over, representing various English sides such as Kent Lancashire Somerset Surrey and Sussex as well as the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.
