CNG Stations Are Shutting Down Nationwide

The Federal Ministry of Petroleum has planned a gas load management strategy for the winter, which includes closing all CNG stations in Pakistan throughout December and January. This move aims to prioritize natural gas for household use during the colder months.

Under this plan, industries that generate electricity from gas will also experience a halt in supply during these two months.

The Sui Northern Gas Company Limited (SNGCL) has been instructed to implement these closures from December 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025, affecting Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and other regions with captive power stations.

At a meeting chaired by Petroleum Minister Musadik Malik, officials highlighted the annual 5% decline in gas production as a factor driving this decision.

Even though gas is produced in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh, CNG stations in the provinces will remain closed for the initial two months of winter to ensure uninterrupted gas supply for homes.

  • Shift kooking and heating load of homes to electricity after reducing rates then give domestic share to cng else smog will increase.
