In a major achievement for Pakistan’s academic landscape, 43 researchers from the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) have been ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide for 2024.
This annual listing by Stanford University and Elsevier celebrates researchers making significant impacts in fields like artificial intelligence, engineering, and cybersecurity.
This milestone highlights NUST’s increasing prominence in global research, as the university’s presence on the list has steadily grown from nine scientists in 2021 to 23 in 2022, 31 in 2023, and now 43. Currently, NUST holds the 353rd spot worldwide and ranks 64th in Asia according to QS University Rankings, solidifying its standing as one of Pakistan’s leading research institutions.
The Stanford and Elsevier ranking assesses scientists based on a composite index of citation counts, the Hirsch index, and authorship roles, among other factors, to gauge scientific influence.
NUST’s recognized researchers, including Dr. Muhammad Shahid, Dr. Noreen Sher Akbar, Dr. Meraj Mustafa Hashmi, and Dr. Rizwan Ul Haq, have made significant contributions across a wide spectrum, such as materials science, biomedical research, nanotechnology, cybersecurity, and physics.
