The highly anticipated mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, pending official confirmation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Sources indicate that final arrangements are being made, and an official announcement is expected soon. Reports indicate that BCCI officials have already made preliminary visits to Saudi Arabia to evaluate potential venues. A second delegation is expected to head to the Gulf nation today to finalize the details.
However, the scheduling has raised some eyebrows, as the auction dates coincide with India’s first Test match against Australia in Perth, scheduled for November 22 to 26.
The broadcast rights holder for both the IPL and the India-Australia Test series are eager to avoid any overlap between the two major events and will likely use the time difference between Australia and India to hold the auction in the afternoon (IST) to help sidestep any broadcast conflicts.
Teams will be clamoring to snatch up names like Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Arshdeep Singh, and Ishan Kishan during the 2025 IPL auction after all the teams announced their retentions for the next season.
With the auction moving outside India, IPL franchises are urging the BCCI to finalize the venue and dates as soon as possible to facilitate travel and logistics.
