Wasim Akram Thinks Pakistan Can Beat India in Test

Following India’s shocking 3-0 home series defeat to New Zealand, legendary Pakistani bowler Wasim Akram has suggested Pakistan would have the upper hand if they were to face India in a Test series on spinning pitches.

Wasim Akram’s comments came during a lively commentary discussion with former England captain Michael Vaughan, as the cricket world reflected on the contrasting October fortunes of India and Pakistan.

Indian batters, usually regarded as masters of playing spin, struggled against New Zealand, whose bowlers exploited turning tracks to devastating effect. Kiwi spinners claimed 37 out of the 57 wickets, with Ajaz Patel, Mitchell Santner, and Glenn Phillips putting on standout performances with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and co. struggling to make an impact.

During the commentary, Vaughan expressed his eagerness to see an India-Pakistan Test series with Akram enthusiastically responding, “It would be massive—great for the game and for two cricket-crazy nations.” Vaughan then pointed out, “Pakistan can now beat India on turners,” a sentiment Akram agreed with, saying, “Pakistan have a real chance to beat India on a spinning track after New Zealand hammered them 3-0 at home.”

While India struggled on turning track, Pakistan used two in Multan and Rawalpindi to beat England at home and earn their first test series win on home soil in over three years.

The only chance of India and Pakistan playing a test match is in the final of the World Test Championship as the two refuse to face off in a bilateral series on either soil. Pakistan and India last played a test match in 2007 so the world may have to wait a while to see if Wasim Akram’s prediction will come true.
