Middlesex Cricket has announced the signing of Pakistani all-rounder Zafar Gohar, who joins the club on a contract that will keep him at Lord’s until the end of the 2026 season.
The Pakistani international previously spent four seasons with Gloucestershire but has departed the Bristol club and will now be available to Middlesex in all three domestic formats as a local player.
Gohar’s impressive career record includes 84 first-class appearances with 300 wickets at an average of 31.52, his best figures being 7 for 79. With the bat, he has tallied 2,538 runs at an average of 22.46, highlighted by a top score of 100*.
In white-ball cricket, he has made 160 appearances, claiming 199 wickets with standout performances of 5 for 56 in List A and 4 for 14 in T20s. In his time at Gloucestershire, Gohar excelled as an overseas player, claiming 118 wickets in 34 first-class matches, including best figures of 6 for 43.
Middlesex’s MD of Cricket, Alan Coleman, expressed his enthusiasm for Gohar’s addition, highlighting the bolstered bowling depth and invaluable experience he brings.
“Zafar is a player we have admired for some time, and we’re thrilled to have secured his services,” Coleman stated. “In Championship cricket, his international-level skills as a spinner will add a new wicket-taking threat across all surfaces, strengthening both our red-ball and white-ball teams. He will bring experience where we’ve lacked it in recent seasons, and his presence will benefit our young spinners immensely.”
Gohar also shared his excitement about joining Middlesex, remarking, “I’m thrilled to be making Lord’s my home ground for the next two years. Middlesex has such a rich history, and it’s exciting to be part of this next chapter. I’m eager to contribute to both the red-ball and white-ball sides and look forward to a successful 2025 season.”
Middlesex fans will no doubt be looking forward to seeing Zafar Gohar in action as the club strengthens its ranks for the upcoming season.
