OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has shared plans for the company’s big releases this year and sadly, GPT 5 is not one of them. Altman confirmed that there will be no GPT 5 in 2024.
The news comes from a recent Reddit AMA (ask me anything) session where Sam Altman revealed the company’s roadmap for 2024. Other than confirming GPT-5 will not launch this year, he revealed that the company will instead prioritize GPT-o1, formerly known as “Project Strawberry.”
Unlike other models, GPT-o1 emphasizes a methodical, deliberate development process. This approach aims to improve performance in math, science, and other fields demanding precision and logic. Altman cited the inherent complexity of these models as the reason for focusing on one at a time.
He said:
All of these models have gotten quite complex and we can’t ship as many things in parallel as we’d like to. We also face a lot of limitations and hard decisions about [where] we allocate…our computers towards.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman envisions a future where AI acts as personal “agents,” autonomously completing tasks for users. This advancement would represent a significant leap beyond simply providing information, allowing AI to perform actions with minimal human direction.
Altman also expressed interest in eventually enabling NSFW adult content, allowing for unrestricted adult interactions with AI. However, due to potential challenges, this remains a future consideration.
ChatGPT Search
ChatGPT’s latest upgrade came in the form of ChatGPT Search, which, as the name says, lets people search the web automatically through a dedicated button. This allows users to browse current information on the internet such as sports results, news updates, stock market data, and other real-time content.
The search results will also include citations and references to articles in a side panel if users want to look further into a topic.
