Shakib Al Hasan Reported for Suspect Bowling Action

The Bangladeshi veteran allrounder Shakib Al Hasan has been called by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to undergo a review of his bowling action after umpires raised concerns during his recent appearance for Surrey in the County Championship.

The 37-year-old was flagged for an illegal action while representing the county against Somerset in September. The former Bangladesh captain took nine wickets in his first County Championship game since his stint with Worcestershire over a decade ago, in 2010-11.

Despite Shakib’s impressive bowling, Somerset pulled off a dramatic 111-run victory, briefly stalling Surrey’s path to their third consecutive Championship title.

Shakib bowled over 63 overs in the match without being called for throwing; however, it has now emerged that on-field umpires Steve O’Shaughnessy and David Millns found his action suspicious.

While he is not currently suspended, reports have emerged that arrangements are underway for Shakib to undergo further testing at an authorized facility, likely within the next couple of weeks.

This incident marks the first time in Shakib’s 20-year career—during which he has claimed 712 wickets across 447 international games, including 246 in 71 Tests—that his bowling action has faced scrutiny.

Shakib’s international career, meanwhile, remains uncertain as well.

His withdrawal from Bangladesh’s Test squad to face South Africa last month, citing security concerns, sparked public outcry and the all-rounder now faces both on-field and off-field challenges.
