In a Senate Committee on Interior meeting led by Senator Faisal Salim, a proposed amendment was introduced to increase punishments for rape offenses.
Senator Mohsin Aziz presented the bill, stressing the necessity for harsher penalties in these cases.
“The punishment for rape is currently too lenient; severe consequences must be enforced,” Senator Aziz asserted, advocating life imprisonment for those convicted of rape.
Senator Samina Zehri also expressed support, urging for the modernization of outdated laws. “We are still following laws from 50 years ago, which need to be changed,” she noted.
Senator Aziz additionally recommended a minimum sentence of 25 years for rape convictions, highlighting the committee’s commitment to implementing stricter measures to address such crimes.
