Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) has warned Serene Air, urging the airline to bring its grounded aircraft back into service or risk severe penalties, potentially including suspension of international operations.
Currently, four out of Serene Air’s seven aircraft are out of action, causing extensive disruptions to flight schedules and sparking passenger dissatisfaction. PCAA Director General Nadir Shafi Dar confirmed that a show-cause notice had been issued, requiring the airline to adjust its domestic schedule to reflect its reduced fleet.
He stated that mounting complaints about delayed and rescheduled flights led the authority to take action. The PCAA recently met with Serene Air’s management, directing CEO AVM Muhammad Safdar Khan (Retd) to restore the grounded planes by the end of the month.
However, Khan denied receiving formal notice, explaining that the grounded aircraft suffered from engine issues beyond Serene Air’s immediate control. He cited maintenance backlogs at Boeing 737 workshops, with some waiting times stretching over two months.
Khan indicated that one aircraft could return to service soon, with full operational capacity anticipated within three months. He added that Serene Air plans to expand its fleet, including introducing wide-body aircraft over the next three to five years.
