Dense smog is severely impacting travel across Punjab, forcing the Motorway Police to close key routes to keep travelers safe.
Roads currently closed include sections of Motorway M2 from Lahore to Sheikhupura, Motorway M3 from Lahore to Jaranwala, and Motorway M4 from Gojra to Abdul Hakeem.
The Motorway Police advised drivers to travel only during daylight when visibility is better and to use both front and rear fog lights for safer driving.
“These closures are necessary for safe travel,” a spokesperson from the Motorway Police stated.
On Friday morning, thick smog and fog caused multiple collisions near the Hiran Minar Interchange in Sheikhupura, injuring five people. Poor visibility led to the crashes, and the injured were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment. Several vehicles also sustained damage.
Rescue 1122 and the Motorway Police are conducting operations to assist those affected. Traffic on the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway near Hiran Minar Interchange remains halted.
Motorway Police have assured that the road will reopen for traffic once the rescue work is complete.
