Pakistani cueist Muhammad Asif has qualified for the knockout round of the 2024 IBSF Master World Snooker Championship taking place in Doha, Qatar, after impressive victories on Thursday.
The three-time World Amateur champion dispatched India’s Rajat Khaneja with a convincing 3-0 win (117(66)-16, 73-15, 118(105)-6) in the opening round before defeating Australia’s Steve Hanna by an identical 3-0 score line (104(69)-33, 105(65)-0, 72-30).
The knockout rounds are set to commence on Friday.
His latest success at the Master World Snooker Championship follows Asif’s stunning performance earlier in the week, where he claimed the IBSF World Snooker Championship 2024 title.
In the final, he bested Iran’s Ali Ghargozu 5-3 in a best-of-nine frames showdown, marking his third world title after previous wins in 2012 and 2019. This victory places him alongside Indian cueists who have achieved similar milestones.
He finished the tournament with the most century breaks among all the participants and became the most decorated cueist in the country. Along with his three individual titles, he boasts two team titles as well.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations, lauding Asif for making the nation proud on the global stage.
In his message, Sharif praised Asif’s dedication and hard work, commending both his family and coach for their support. The prime minister also highlighted the accomplishments of Pakistan’s youth in sports, emphasizing their role in uplifting Pakistan’s name internationally.
