Fake Website of CM Punjab Solar Panel Scheme Targets Innocent Citizens

A fraudulent website promoting free solar panels under a Punjab government scheme has recently gone viral on social media platforms like WhatsApp, X, and Facebook.

The site requests users’ names, ID numbers, and monthly electricity usage, falsely claiming that registered individuals will receive free solar equipment. It targets those consuming 100 to 500 electricity units monthly and states that November 10 is the application deadline.

Authorities have identified the website as fraudulent. According to a report from a private news channel, a government official and a cybersecurity expert verified that the link was fake and created solely to deceive citizens.

They warn that this site poses a potential threat to users’ data and could be a tool for fraud. The Website is https://solar-panel-scheme-2024.blogspot.com

This Website is completely fake. The genuine program, the “Roshan Gharana Program,” was introduced by the Punjab government in March. Its purpose is to supply solar systems to low-income households and to distribute 50,000 systems.

However, according to Adnan Mudar, the project director, registration for this initiative has not yet begun. He clarified that none of the websites circulating claims of free solar panels are affiliated with the government, and the official registration process has not been launched.

Mudar emphasized that when the program goes live, the government will inform the public through official media channels. Until then, people are advised to be cautious and avoid sharing personal details on unverified sites, as these fake links have no government endorsement or connection.
