India Reveals Names of Soldiers Killed by Pakistan in May 2025

India has revealed the names of six armed forces personnel killed during the May 2025 military confrontation with Pakistan, nearly one year after the clashes took place.

The Indian government published the names on June 26, 2026, in the Roll of Honour section of the National War Memorial website.

The records identify the personnel as casualties of Operation Sindoor, the name India gave to its military action against Pakistan in May 2025.

India-Pakistan 2025 Conflict

The military confrontation began weeks after militants attacked tourists in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegaly Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, in April 2025.

Nearly one month after the attack, India claimed that it had targeted suspected militant positions inside Pakistan.

New Delhi officially named the military campaign Operation Sindoor.

Pakistan responded with defensive and retaliatory military action. Islamabad called its operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos.

Both countries later claimed that they had caused significant damage to the other side.

Pakistan also claimed that its forces had destroyed several Indian fighter aircraft during the confrontation.

US President Donald Trump also repeatedly confirmed that Pakistan destroyed numerous Indian fighter jets.

Pakistan Identified Martyrs

Pakistan’s military media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations, said on May 13, 2025, that 11 members of the Pakistani armed forces had embraced martyrdom during the conflict.

The martyrs included six personnel from the Pakistan Army and five from the Pakistan Air Force.

Pakistan publicly identified the martyred personnel. The government later awarded them military honours in August 2025.

India, however, did not officially publish a complete list of its military casualties at the time. In fact, India continuously denied any casualties during the May 2025 altercation with Pakistan.

Names Added to National War Memorial

On June 26, 2026, the Indian government identified six personnel who died during Operation Sindoor by adding their names to the National War Memorial’s Roll of Honour.

The personnel include:

  • Subedar Major Pawan Kumar of Headquarters 10 Infantry Brigade
  • Rifleman Sunil Kumar of 4 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, who received the Vir Chakra
  • Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of 5 Field Regiment
  • Aviation technician Mood Muralinaik of 851 Light Regiment
  • Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh of 237 Field Workshop Company
  • Sergeant Surendra Kumar of 39 Wing of the Indian Air Force, who received the Vayu Medal

The disclosure marks the first time the Indian government has officially linked the deaths of these personnel to Operation Sindoor.

The entries appeared almost a year after the military confrontation, which brought the two nuclear-armed neighbours close to a wider conflict.
