A Dubai company aims to bring video games into the classroom as an official curriculum.
The company which goes by the name Unesportsity, a marketplace for gaming products, is testing a program for students as young as three years old. The pilot project is planned for the Citizens School, where Dr. Adil serves as chairman. He explained that their goal is to make learning enjoyable and subtly build essential skills.
He further added:
We want people to realize that gaming can introduce economic output and benefit gamers by upskilling. We want to introduce gaming in a beneficial and positive way across schools and universities, ultimately growing it into a curriculum that will use gaming for skilling.
Dr Adil Alzarooni, who is also the founder of CapiZona Ventures, which runs Unesportsity, believes that gaming skills can also help with regular life. He wants this gaming program to help children nurture those skills so it benefits their future, regardless of whether they become gamers or not.
Inside a Sheikh Zayed Road café, Unesportsity has launched its first physical location, featuring gaming tournaments designed to introduce young people to esports. The studio has multiple goals. They have a platform to manage tournaments and eventually, these will include both schools and universities. Right now, they’re testing the space, the tournament management, and the rewards system and their next step is to expand the program to more communities and schools.
Dr. Adil’s main objective is to change how parents view gaming. Since many parents see gaming as negative and tell their kids to stop playing, he hopes to counter this perception.
