Pakistan’s Central Govt Debt Decreases by Over 1% in September 2024

The total public debt stock of the federal government increased by 11.7 percent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in September 2024 as compared to the same month of the last year.

According to the monthly data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the debt stock increased to Rs. 69.570 trillion in September 2024 as compared to Rs. 62.281 trillion in September 2023.

On a month-on-month basis, the total public debt stock of the federal government fell by 1.1 percent from Rs. 70.362 trillion recorded in August 2024.

The data shows that the domestic debt of the central government increased by 19.7 percent from Rs. 39.698 trillion in September 2023 to Rs. 47.536 trillion in September 2024 while going down 1.7 percent over the previous month.

Out of total domestic debt, the long-term public debt increased from Rs. 30.694 trillion to Rs. 36.229 trillion and the stock of short-term debt increased from Rs. 8.883 trillion to Rs. 11.222 trillion during the last year.
