Pakistan’s left-arm spinner, Noman Ali, has clinched the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for October 2024, edging out strong competition to bring home the honor.
His exceptional performance was pivotal in Pakistan’s thrilling 2-1 ICC World Test Championship series victory over England, where he claimed 20 wickets at an impressive average of 13.85 over two crucial Test wins.
Noman’s standout performances were enough to outshine nominees Kagiso Rabada of South Africa and New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner, making him Pakistan’s first men’s award recipient since Babar Azam’s win in August of last year.
Reflecting on his achievement, Noman expressed gratitude to his teammates: “I am delighted to be named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month and deeply grateful to my teammates who supported me in delivering my best. It’s always an honor to be part of memorable wins for Pakistan.”
The 37-year-old spinner was a game-changer throughout the series, producing two decisive spells with match figures of 11/147 and 9/130. Despite
Pakistan’s initial loss, Noman’s resilience helped overturn the series. His remarkable 8/46 in the second Test secured Pakistan’s first home Test victory since 2021, defending a 297-run target with skill and composure.
Noman continued to shine in the series finale in Rawalpindi, delivering with both bat and ball. Coming in at No. 9, he played a crucial 45-run knock that bolstered Pakistan’s lead.
Later, he capped off the series with a match-winning six-wicket haul, dismissing England for just 112 and sealing Pakistan’s nine-wicket win.
The ICC Men’s Player of the Month is a well-deserved recognition that celebrates Noman Ali’s vital contributions in a series that marked Pakistan’s return to Test dominance on home soil.
