Mohammad Amir Calls India ‘Childish’ for Champions Trophy Saga

In a fiery response to India’s refusal to participate in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy hosted by Pakistan, left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir has openly criticized the BCCI’s decision, calling it a blow to international cricket and a setback for the spirit of the game.

The BCCI recently informed the ICC of its decision, citing longstanding government restrictions against playing in Pakistan, which have been in place since 2008.

Amir, speaking candidly on his YouTube channel, questioned the fairness of India’s stance, pointing out that Pakistan has consistently made efforts to travel to India for major tournaments, highlighting the inconsistency in India’s decision.

He stated,

This is a loss for cricket; it shouldn’t have come to this. One team shouldn’t make others suffer. If India can’t participate, perhaps it’s better to include another team willing to play. Refusing to compete in Pakistan while others are ready is just childish.

Mohammad Amir stressed that Pakistan’s preparations for the Champions Trophy go beyond cricket, symbolizing the nation’s commitment to showcase its passion for the sport.

With significant investments already funneled into stadium infrastructure upgrades, Amir expressed concern that India’s decision could undermine Pakistan’s efforts to host a successful tournament. However, he hinted that Pakistan might not passively accept this move.

He expressed confidence in PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan’s interior minister, believing Naqvi would not let Pakistan suffer after the considerable investments already made.

“There should be a rule allowing the ICC to take strict action against any member board subject to government interference. Otherwise, this could set a precedent, with other teams refusing to travel on similar grounds. Mohsin Naqvi won’t let Pakistan suffer after all we’ve invested to host this event,” Mohammad Amir added.

Speculation is now mounting that Pakistan might respond boldly if the ICC allows BCCI to dictate the terms of the solution.

There are reports that the Pakistani government may instruct the PCB to suspend all cricketing ties with India across ICC and Asian events until political issues between the two nations are resolved, a potential escalation that could reverberate through international cricket.
