Local Craftsman Creates Solar-Powered Rickshaw

A skilled craftsman from Multan, Altaf Hussain, has invented an affordable and eco-friendly rickshaw powered by solar energy.

Hussain shared his idea, saying, “I thought, if electric rickshaws are running, why not use solar power to keep a rickshaw going for free?” He worked hard on this idea and sourced the necessary parts from China and Pakistan.

While electric rickshaws are already available, Hussain found them too expensive due to rising electricity prices. He decided to install solar panels to make the rickshaw more affordable.

Hussain installed a 585-watt solar panel and connected two batteries. This setup allows the rickshaw to run up to 60 kilometers on a full charge.

When the sun is shining, the rickshaw directly draws power from sunlight. On cloudy days, the stored energy in the batteries is used to keep the rickshaw running.

Building the solar rickshaw took Hussain about two months. The total cost of the project was around four lakh rupees. However, he noted that if better quality parts were used, the cost could rise to five and a half to six lakh rupees.

Hussain’s teacher praised his work, and now more people are coming to him for eco-friendly and cost-effective electric rickshaws.

“This rickshaw doesn’t emit smoke, and it runs quietly. Passengers also enjoy the ride,” he added.

Hussain plans to promote solar-powered rickshaws in society so that more people can benefit from this innovative and green solution.
