University of Health Sciences Changes Duration of BDS Program

The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) program in Punjab has been extended from four to five years.

This decision was made during the 49th meeting of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore’s Board of Studies in Dentistry, where it was also agreed that both public and private dental colleges would waive fees for the fifth year.

The board also approved a new curriculum for dental colleges, set to launch in the 2024-25 academic session.

UHS Vice Chancellor, Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore, highlighted that the updated curriculum places special focus on community dentistry and clinical skills. He added that subject specialists and medical education experts in all dental colleges will receive training for the transition and that life-saving skills will also be included in the curriculum.
