Karachi’s business sector has announced the launch of a new airline, Air Karachi, marking a significant step in Pakistan’s aviation industry.
Business tycoon Hanif Gohar confirmed that the airline has been officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), and a formal application for a license has been submitted to the federal government.
In its first phase, Air Karachi plans to lease three aircraft. The airline will be headed by retired Air Vice Marshal Imran, a former Southern Command official who has been appointed the CEO. The initial investment for the airline stands at Rs. 5 billion, with each shareholder contributing Rs. 50 million to the project.
This move comes amid a growing trend of new airlines eyeing the Pakistani aviation market. As of September 2024, several companies are interested in launching operations, including Jet Green, Q Airways, and Go Green Air, all of which have applied for licenses from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
Additionally, Air Indus has sought permission to resume its flight operations. Industry experts believe the surge in new airlines will positively impact the country’s economy by offering more travel options to passengers, boosting foreign exchange, and creating new employment opportunities. Pakistan’s aviation sector is currently dominated by three private carriers: Airblue, SereneAir, and AirSial.
Emirates, Etihad, and Air India, all airlines CEOs or Heads are the CIVILIANS, I don’t expect this from Karachi’s business community. Karachi doesn’t have any competent or capable Civilian to run an airline, you can assign flight operations to a retired airforce guy. Allah Blesses Pakistan.
